SRINAGAR : Government today handed over ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh to the family of a sarpanch who was shot dead by suspected militants in Pulwama district of south Kashmir last night.
The cheque was handed over to the next of kin of slain sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad Lone by a team of National Conference leaders including Minister of State for Home Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, who visited the bereaved family at Kulapora-Lassipora, an official spokesman said.
Besides Kitchloo, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo, Minister of State for Public Health Engineering and Irrigation Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, former MOS Home Nasir Aslam Wani and Pulwama District Development Commission Shafat Noor visited the residence of Lone.
The spokesman said the Ministers directed the District Development Commissioner to issue a government job order in favour of the legal heir of the deceased on compassionate ground at an earliest.
He said the Ministers also directed the authorities concerned to ensure financial assistance in favour of the deceased family under IAY and Rehabilitation Council Scheme.
Kitchloo also directed the DIG South Kashmir to appoint a legal heir of the deceased in the department, he said.
The Ministers condemned the killing of Lone and said such inhuman acts cannot derail the efforts of government to bring normalcy and peace in the state.
“The people of the state wisely thwarted the game plan of these elements who wanted to disturb the peace and tranquillity in the state…Government is taking all efforts to bring normalcy in the state,” Sagar said, adding, “Such people who are adamant to disturb the peace in the state will not succeed in their nefarious designs.” (Agencies)
