NEW DELHI, May 12: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today as a mark of respect to sitting Congress Member Praveen Rashtrapal who passed away this morning at the age of 77. Chairman Hamid Ansari paid glowing tributes to the departed soul. Later, entire House stood up and observed silence. Rashtrapal was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. He joined central government service as Income-Tax Inspector in 1969 and rose to become Assistant Commission of Income Tax in 1994.
He was associated with trade union of Income-Tax employees in particular and central government employees in general. Rashtrapal also worked for the welfare of Dalits. He was a law graduate from Siddharth College, Mumbai. He has also contributed to Dalit literature. (UNI)
