JAMMU, Apr 25: The 10 cyber cells established in Jammu Zone have so far frozen an amount of Rs 68 lakh and refunded approximately Rs 22 lakh to the victims.
This information was shared by Jammu and Kashmir Police in a statement issued to the media.
It said that in a strategic move to combat escalating cybercrimes, 10 new cyber cells were established in different districts, in order to enhance local cybercrime management and provide direct support to the citizens.
“Since their establishment earlier this year, these cells have tackled a variety of cyber frauds including KYC update scams, fake investment schemes, and social media fraud, effectively freezing over Rs. 68 lakhs and refunding approximately Rs 22 lakhs to victims,” read the police statement.
It said that these district-based units were established with a clear vision: to address and mitigate cyber threats at a community level, ensuring a swift and efficient response. Personnel from these cells underwent rigorous training in two phases, focusing on handling cybercrime effectively, with plans for ongoing training through various refresher courses.
It further said that the Cyber Police Station in Jammu served as a central resource, providing additional training and support to these cells.
“Its efforts over the past six months have been noteworthy, securing Rs 1.28 crores and facilitating refunds of nearly Rs 49.5 lakhs to those affected by cyber fraud,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the Jammu Cyber Police Station is actively raising public awareness about cyber risks. They have launched extensive educational programs across diverse platforms including schools, healthcare institutions, and social media, advising the public on preventive practices and digital safety.
