Rs 6.20 lakh charged from traffic violators

JAMMU, Oct 1: A team of Motor Vehicle Department charged Rs 6.20 lakh fine from traffic violators, an official spokesman said.
The team headed by ARTO BOI Jammu Shafqat Majeed Bhat and assisted by Motor Vehicle Inspectors Rajeev Kundal and Sanjay Bhat checked 150 vehicles, out of which 48 vehicles were compounded under section 66/192 of MV Act, 5 vehicles were compounded under section 177 of MV act and 3 vehicles were compounded under section 190(ii) PUC and COTPA, 2003.
A number of goods carriage vehicles transporting fruit from Kashmir to other parts of the country were also checked and 3 indulging in overloading the fruit in excess to the permitted load were booked under section 113/194.
Fine to the tine of Rs 1,45,550 was realized from the defaulters under various sections of MV Act on the spot.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the checking of vehicles by the flying squads on previous day, fine to the tune of Rs 1,39,500 was realized from Jammu, Samba and Rajouri districts.
In the past one week, ARTO Udhampur Rachna Sharma has also carried out massive drive against traffic violations during which 982 vehicles were checked for different violations out of which 166 vehicles were booked and a fine of Rs 3,34,000 was recovered from the defaulters.
All these drives were conducted under the supervision of RTO Jammu Deep Raj Kanethia.
