LEH, July 20: Agriculture Department Leh under Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) organized a one-day farmers’ training/awareness camp at Sharnos village today.
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal was the chief guest on the occasion. The camp was organized in the open field of progressive farmer Tsering Mutup surrounded with variety of vegetable fields aimed at to demonstrate and encourage other farmers towards vegetable farming. Under MODI, the Shara-Sharnon valley is taken under Phase II with the target to convert this valley into organic by 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC said that a massive fund of Rs 500 crore was sanctioned under Special Development Package 2020-21 for MODI initiated by the LAHDC, Leh which was launched by Lt Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur recently. He said that for Agriculture (MODI) Rs 250 crore is allocated for Leh district while as the Capex Budget of Hill Council Leh is Rs 232 crore, which itself shows the concern and focus of LAHDC, Leh towards agriculture sector.
Executive Councilor for Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin who was guest of honour on the occasion, said that Mission Organic Development Initiative of Ladakh will not only increase the income of farmers of Ladakh in future but will also improve the ecology, environment and health of Ladakhi people.
Councillor Igoo Tsering Paldan, speaking on the occasion, appealed the farmers to take maximum benefit from MODI.
Earlier, CEC and EC Agriculture paid a field visit of cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, onion, potato, tomato, seed cultivation fields, compost pit and green house of farmer Tsering Motup spread over a good chunk of land.
En route, EC Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin also visited the Floriculture Farm Thiksey of Agriculture Department, Leh and reviewed the progress of Floriculture Farm.
