JAMMU, Dec 16: Tourism Minister GA Mir has announced grant of additional Rs 50 lakh in the current year for Raghunath Bazaar beautification and modernization project.
This was stated by Raghunath Bazaar Businessman Association (RBBA) president Baldev Khullar, while speaking in a meeting.
Giving details of the project, Khullar said that project was taken in hand in 2008-09. Governor NN Vohra had sanctioned Rs 1 crore, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore for the project.
Most of the amount has already been spent and the total estimated cost of the project is Rs 6.67 crore, he said, adding that with sanction of another Rs 1 crore this year the total sanctioned amount has become Rs 4 crore so far.
The project which includes installing of the ornamental lamp posts with antique chimney type looks in the market and underground electric cables, he said, adding that MCB connection be given to the shops.
Besides music system will be installed at places in Raghunath Bazaar, which will give sweet music and also create awareness among the visitors about security related matters through announcement, Khullar informed.
BSNL has to provide underground cable connection with latest technology providing broadband/internet facilities to the shops. The PHE is charged with installing five fire extinguishers, 10 public water supply posts with antique look of lion face, he said, adding that PWD will lay Dholpuri red stones on footpath.
All the shops will have uniform shutters and signboards on the pattern of Raghunath Temple, he said, adding that this part will be done by the shopkeepers themselves and 80 per cent of the same has already been completed.
