JAMMU, Sept 23: Birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh-the last Hindu monarch of the erstwhile J&K State was celebrated here today by the members of royal family.
Grandsons of Maharaja Hari Singh-Vikramaditya Singh and Ajat Shatru Singh along with their family members Kuwarani Ritu Singh, Ranvijay Singh, Martand Singh and others participated in the programme and paid rich tribute to the Maharaja.
Popular Dogri songs were sung and dances were performed by renowned artists on this occasion while Sanskrit scholars performed certain rituals amidst recitation of mantras.
Kuwarani Ritu Singh told reporters that her husband Ajat Shatru Singh got the resolution for holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh passed in J&K Legislative Council in 2017 after which a movement started for the same.
“The people of Jammu came on roads and ultimately holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja was announced,” she maintained adding that in 2001 she along with her husband and children had started Social and Educational Foundation to carry forward the legacy of Maharaja.
“We are running Delhi Public School in this regard where many under-privileged students are getting free education,” she said.
Ritu Singh further said that they are working hard to fulfil the dreams of Maharaja.
It is pertinent to mention here that after a struggle holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh was declared few days back and today was the first birth anniversary of Maharaja after getting the holiday.
