JAMMU, Sept 1: Romeo Force celebrated its 20th Raising Day today.
For the last 19 years, Romeo Force has been one of the prime engines of Northern Command for attrition against terrorism and stability in the hinterland of the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The Force was raised on 1 September 1999 at Dhanidhar Fort, Rajouri.
The short but glorious history of the force has been a saga of unparalleled bravery, courage, sacrifices and unconditional devotion to duty by all ranks of the force, who have had the honour of serving in it.
The force has achieved tremendous success in its endeavors to achieve peace and tranquility in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch. The force has neutralized 1458 terrorists and recovered a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and warlike stores. The Nation has recognized this by conferring 993 awards for Gallantry and Distinguished Service to include 1 Ashok Chakra and 4 Kirti Chakra. These achievements have, however, come at a great cost with 18 officers, 19 Junior Commissioned officers and 271 other ranks laying down their lives in service of the Nation.
Over the past year, the force has continued its relentless counter insurgency operation by preventing infiltration across the fence on the Line of Control and ensuring peace in the region. Purposeful activities towards skill development, education and health care of local populace, ex-servicemen and Veer Naris have contributed immensely towards building bonds and enhancing peace and prosperity in the region.
On the occasion, all ranks of the force paid homage to the martyrs in a solemn ceremony conducted at the War Memorial at Romeo Force Headquarters.
Major General Raj Sinha, GOC laid wreath at the memorial during the ceremony. The GOC, while addressing the officers, JCOs and soldiers of the force mentioned that their ancestors had worked hard to bring peace in the region and they must leave no stone unturned in ensuring the same.
