Rohtak police busts two criminal gangs

CHANDIGARH, Jun 9: Rohtak police today claimed to have busted two gangs allegedly involved in six murders and kidnapping with the arrest of six persons.

All the accused were allegedly involved in heinous crimes like murder, attempt to murder and robbery or dacoity.

While stating this today, Inspector General of Police, Rohtak Range, Anil Kumar Rao said members of criminal gang, which was mainly active in Sonepat and Rohtak area were apprehended when they were planning to rob a vehicle in Rohtak.

He said the gang was being run from Rohtak jail by Neetu, a resident of Gadhwal who was involved in seven cases of murder and attempt to murder.

They were planning to commit two murders, one each in Sonepat and Rohtak in the next few days, he claimed, according to an official release here.

The arrested gang members were identified as Veerender alias Bansi, Devender, Rajendra, Kaptaan, Rakesh and Pradeep.

They had also planned to kill a person at the instance of resident of Jind who wanted to get his relative, a law student of Rohtak, eliminated, police said.

Police said accused will be taken on remand to know the source of weapons and others in the nexus.

Following their arrest, a raid was conducted at Rohtak jail, wherein five mobile sets and 4 SIM cards were recovered from five hardened criminals, all involved in several cases of murder.

Another gang, mainly operating in Sonepat and Rohtak area was also busted by Rohtak police.

The gang was being run from Hisar jail by a Krishan Gatha, a dreaded criminal lodged there.

The gang was planning four murders for ransom from a big businessman in Sonepat area, police said.

Vijay alias Vicky who was the key gang member was wanted in a case of attempt to murder in Rohtak and in a truck robbery case of Kundli.

Vijay has confessed his involvement in the murder of Vikrant, who was shot thrice in Atayal, Sampla on May 16, 2013, police said.

Three other persons were involved in this case and efforts are being made to nab them, police added. (PTI)
