Robbers break open 38 lockers of Punjab & Sindh Bank

JALANDHAR, Jan 19: Robbers struck in a big way and looted valuables and cash worth crores of rupees after breaking open 38 lockers of the Punjab & Sindh Bank’s Reru Chowk branch.

The robbers used gas cutters to first break open the lock of the main gate of the bank. They then cut the strong room of the bank having 255 lockers. They broke open 38 lockers with the help of high potential gas device as all the 38 lockets were cut in a round shape. ACP North, Balkar Singh said that during preliminary investigations it seemed that the robbers had done their job in a very efficient and skilled manner.

All the 38 lockers were found emptied of valuables.

The crime was believed to have beev committed on the intervening night of January 17 and 18. The bank was closed yesterday due to holiday following the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. Taking advantage of the holiday in the bank, the robbers might have struck on the night of January 17 and continued their operations throughout the night police said. ACP Balkar Singh said investigations into the robbery had been started and the culprits would soon be nabbed.

This is for the first time that a strong room of a bank had been broken in Jalandhar. (UNI)
