This has reference to the news item ‘Over 2700 killed in road accidents during past 3 yrs’ DE Aug 26.
The figures as mentioned in the news item are quite staggering. It clearly reveals certain aspects of driving on roads. Our roads have become bloody during the last several years. These consume a good number of people every year. Despite this neither the Government nor the people are going to learn a lesson from them.
Despite making tall claims that the Government has taken several road safety measures, there is nothing to prove that road safety has improved. It is said that behind every accident there is act of negligence. Whether negligence is on part of the authorities or those driving the vehicles is a question that will hold both the stakeholders responsible for the present situation. Merely traffic police is not going to solve this situation. People too have to accept their role.
