SAMBA, May 11: The 12th death anniversary of Shaheed, Hoshiar Singh and his wife Shaheed Shashi Bala was observed here, today.
The family members of the martyrs paid rich tributes to Shaheed Hoshiar Singh and his wife, Shaheed Shashi Bala. During tribute ceremony slogans were also raised by the family members who chanted “Hoshiar Singh Amar Rahe” and “Shashi Bala Amar Rahe”. On May 11 in the year 2008 in Rakh village of Samba, there was a sudden sound of gunfire at the gate of martyrs family. On that day, three militants attacked the house of Shashi Bala and when Hoshiar Singh came out after hearing the sound of gunfire, the militants shot him and he fell at the main gate.
The terrorists wanted to enter the house but Shashi Bala quickly got out of her room. Militants also shot at her but she did not go back through the doors of the rooms before she died so the terrorists could not enter the room. This way she saved the life of her son Loksevak and daughter Bindu Sambyal. However, in this fire, her married daughter Bindu Sambyal and her mother-in-law were injured.
Loksevak Sambyal, said that his mother has saved his life by laying down her life.
He said that if the mother had not stopped the militants that day, they would have managed to enter the room and today the story would have been totally different. Loksevak Sambyal who had completed his education at that time was looking for the job. His father Hoshiar Singh and mother Shashi Bala attained martyrdom on Mother’s Day in 2008 and he was later appointed as a lecturer in Political Science on May 28 in 2008. The Loksevak Sambyal said that the sacrifice of his mother saved his life on Mother’s Day. He said that his sister who had come from Punjab along with her mother-in-law were injured in the firing but the then Government did not help them and they had to be treated privately in Punjab.
Shashi Bala was a worker in the Health Department and was the leader of the Health Workers Union.
Among the family members were present including son LokSewak Singh Sambyal, Veer Singh, Chagger Singh, Rahul Chandel, Vikas Mankotia, Surekha Sambyal, Shardha Sambyal and many others.
