Retd AMO creates record, obtains 87 degrees from diverse universities

JAMMU, Oct 19: Setting an example of extreme devotion and love for education and also proving that there is no age limit for education, O P Sharma (retired AMO) of Bagnoti (Nowshera) has created a record of “maximum number of degrees from diverse universities” in India Book of National Records.
In this context, he has been awarded a certificate of achievement by India Book of Records showing that he has obtained 87 degrees including bachelor’s degrees, diplomas and PG diplomas, Master’s degrees and M Phil degrees from 21 different institutions.
The main subjects of his studies through various institutions include- Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing, Economics, Education, Environmental Education, English, Hindi, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Law, Management, Hospital Administration, Human Rights, Disaster Management, Labour Management, Financial Management, Jainology, Philosophy & Religion, Commerce, Foreign Trade, Psychology, Science of Living, Yoga and many more.
The various degrees and diplomas obtained by him include MA, MSc, MCom, MMC, MBA, M.Lib, LLB, MCS, MHR, MHA, MMM, MPM, PGDDM, PGDRD, PHDHE, PGDEE, PGDT, PGDUPL, PGDLL&AL, PGDY, PGDPR, PGDPM, PGDFT, PHDHE PGCGPS, PGCAP, M.Phil (Education and Economics) etc.
Belonging to a refugee family of Rawalakot of PoJK, Sharma had a huge desire for higher studies and wanted to become a college teacher, but he could not do so due extreme poverty and other hostile environment prevalent in the family during his childhood period of life. So he had to face many hardships in his life. However, he did not yield before hostilities of life and continued his studies through distance mode of education.
Sharma informed that he is still continuing education and presently he is pursuing PhD in Education. “The main objective of my continuing education is not only to get largest number of degrees and diplomas, but to diversify my fields of knowledge and experience about the quality of education in various Indian universities and also to set up a study centre for the benefit of distance learners and other educationally and economically backward children,” he said.
He shared that he is planning to setup a multipurpose social services centre (MSSC) to provide free consultation to the farmers, labourers, and students in near future.
