SRINAGAR, Oct 9: The Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers carried out a hunger strike in support of their demands at the Press Enclave here today.
In a statement, spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Converted Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum said that the State Government should regularize the services of education volunteers, contractual teachers and Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers without any further delay. The spokesman said that the hunger strike was carried out to remind the Government of its promises made to them.
The spokesman said that since 2003 no employee working under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) has been regularized. He said that education volunteers, contractual teachers and Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers have over the years rendered yeoman service and their demand of regularization is genuine.
