Restriction imposed in Anantnag, one injured in clash

SRINAGAR: Sporadic clashes were witnessed between locals and security forces in south Kashmir on the fourth consecutive day today while restrictions were imposed in Anantnag town which is at the centre of the row surrounding the death of a trucker after being attacked in Udhampur.
A youth was injured during clashes in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.
The police said that the youth was hit by a tear smoke shell on head and was admitted to SKIMS Soura here for treatment. His condition is said to be “stable”, the police said.
Zahid Rasool Bhat, a native of Anantnag town, was injured in a mob attack in Udhampur on October 9. He succumbed to his injuries at a Delhi hospital later.
Groups of youth pelted stones at security forces at several places in Anantnag throughout the day even as authorities imposed strict restrictions in the main town to restore law and order.
Police fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the protesting youth.
Clashes were also witnessed near Lal Chowk – the nerve centre of the city here in the afternoon, shortly after the news of fresh detention of JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik reached his Maisuma headquarters. (AGENCIES)
