Restore statehood to J&K immediately: Madan Lal

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Aug 13: Former Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader, Madan Lal Sharma has demanded that statehood of Jammu & Kashmir should be immediately restored by the Union Government.
In a press statement issued here today, Sharma alleged that the Government has demoted the people of Jammu by converting J&K into a UT which is a first of its kind demotion in the history of India. This is `something reverse’ which the BJP Govt has committed. Normally, in the past UTs were converted into statehood.
The Congress leader said that the rights of the Dogras should be safeguarded by introduction of laws so that the local youth have a right over the jobs in Jammu & Kashmir. The land and ecology of J&K should not be allowed to be eroded by the land mafia which may now come to J&K also. Madan Lal demanded introduction of such laws which prohibit non-locals to buy land in J&K, like in Himachal Pradesh and this is necessary to protect our farmers who may fall victim to land mafia of adjoining states.
The former MP also demanded that Dogri language should be made the official language of J&K so that Dogra culture, heritage & language is not lost due to influx of people from different states and cultures. The rich Dogra heritage should be protected at all costs so that our future generations can also connect and follow our own culture.
He said the Government should also clear the air on the existing SRO’s especially ALC/IB & RBA as the rumour mongers are creating confusion in the mind of people.
