JAMMU, Oct 18: Shri Ranbireshwar Mandir Welfare Committee has urged upon the District Magistrate Jammu and the District Police chief to restore police picket at the main gate of the Temple on Shalamar road here.
The Temple committee in a meeting held here today expressed serious concern over the issue and appealed to the Administration to restore the police picket which was withdrawn recently, on the plea that more cops were required for the flood relief operation in Kashmir and other parts.
Jyoti Sarup Mishra, Legal Advisor of the Mandir Committee said that the festive season has started and anything untoward can happen in the absence of police personnel at the main gate of this historic temple. He said that the committee disagrees with the statement of police that concerned SHO has increased patrolling near the temple. He said that committee demands that permanent police picket be restore there without any delay.
Mishra said that on several occasions, anti-social elements/ militants targeted the historic temples of Jammu and it is appropriate for the JKP to take cognizance of the matter and restore picket at the temple.
Prominent members present in the meeting included Shiv Kumar Sharma, Mandeep Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Surinder Bhagat, Narinder Vaid, Rekha Sharma, Daali Abrol, Rajinder Vijay Magotra and Dr Sunny Gupta.
