JAMMU, Jan 2: Criticising Government for not staying prepared to meet harsh weather conditions, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and coordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency, Abdul Hamid Choudhary said that National Highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar has not been restored for the past three days and no vehicle was being allowed to cross district Udhampur.
On one hand Government wants to promote tourism and on the other hand it is incapable to make arrangements for them to stay in snow covered resorts, he added.
People who are struck on highways are trekking from Batote to Kud only to reach at safer places, which shows un-preparedness and casual approach of Government towards people, Choudhary said.
Due to lack of communication, hundreds of tourists and local people were forced to stay at Udhampur or return to their homes in Punjab and other neighbouring states, he added.
Government must immediately restore communication lines, power and water supplies and also clear snow from major road links to help people reach their destinations, he demanded.
Besides restoring essential supplies in remote villages, he asked Government to reconnect famous tourist spots like Pahalgam and Gulmarg in Srinagar and Patnitop and Sanasar in Jammu so that tourists could also reach there comfortably.
