Sir,
The political parties whether national or region should think twice before blaming the Election Commission of India (ECI) for actions which it may have deemed fit to be taken against for breaching Model Code of Conduct or violating poll privisions. It should not be blamed for taking sides. In recent times, many political parties criticised the functioning of the ECI on one count or the other. In case the political parties do not stop their criticism, it will affect the working of the Commission in a free and fair manner.
If election process in India has earned world wide respectability, it is because ECI has done tremendous hard work to conduct free and fair polls. Before ECI embarked on reforms in poll process, the election in the country were seen with contempt and disdain for being rigged and marread with violence. Intimidation of genuine voters, booth capturing, bogus voting and violence were order of the day. The electorate were fed with elections and they considered them sheer wastage of money and time. Barring partymen, no one showed interest in them. After a string of reforms, people have once again showed enthusiasm in it. This momentum will be maintained only if people, particularly political parties stop criticising it for their vested interests.
Yours etc….
