JAMMU, June 28: The irate residents of Qasim Nagar, Rajiv Nagar and adjoining localities today staged demonstration to lodge their protest against failure of the authorities to keep check over the ongoing immoral activities and drug trade in their areas. The angry residents also blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Narwal for hours together.
The protesters alleged that flesh trading and drug abuse have direct link but authorities still in deep slumber. They demanded busting of this network to save the younger generation of these localities. They were of the opinion that some women are doing their immoral activities with the support of drug mafia and influential person but no action has been taken.
The residents said unchecked misdeeds of such women are sending a very wrong message among younger generation of the localities.
Panna Lal, Dalbir Singh, Samitri Devi, Yashpal, Rattan Chand, Rakesh Kumar, Gopal Dass, Paramjeet and Santosh Kumar said “Flesh trading is going unabated in their locality because police has failed to take action against the women, engaged in this trade. Immoral activities of these females are sending a very wrong signal among our younger generation. We have repeatedly raised this issue during police public meetings but no action has been taken. We were forced to stage protest to draw attention of the authorities towards misdeeds of such women”. They demanded strict action against those who are involved and patronise such activities.
After getting information, Superintendent of Police (SP) South Shaazad Salaria rushed the spot and assured strict action against those found involved in immoral activities and drug trade.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
