Residents hold protest, demand rehabilitation of flood affected families

JAMMU, Nov 9: A protest was held by the residents at Kalika Colony near Bahu Fort and demanded relief and rehabilitation of four families, which got affected due to flood in Rajeev Nagar nallah.
The flood occurred in Rajeev Nagar nallah on 26-08-2020 early in the morning and huge losses were occurred on this day.
A barber shop owned by Ramesh Lal, son of Shankar Dass of Kalika Colony, two rooms belonging to Mohan Lal, son of Shounku Ram, One more room and bathroom and two rooms of Abdul Ghani Wani alongwith two bathrooms were damaged in the flood. The road leading to cremation ground was also damaged due to flood.
While speaking on this occasion, Sham Lal Basson, Corporator said that they approached all the concerned departments for relief and rehabilitation of flood affected families but nothing has been done till today. “We were having great expectations from Mayor and Commissioner JMC viz District Administration but nothing they did nothing”, he added.
“We also approached Secretary Red Cross for help. Even the concerned Patwari and Naib Tehsildar also visited the site on same day but nothing has been done on ground”, Basson said, adding that several letters and reminders were sent to concerned departments, but nothing has been done, which forced them to come on road and held protest.
We hope that district administration will take quick action for relief and rehabilitation of 4 flood affected families of Kalika Colony, he added. “We also hope that JMC will also start re-construction work of nallah”, he added.
“If nobody from the administration visited the site within two days then the protest will be intensified”, the protestors said before dispersing.
Those who were present included Janak Singh, Joginder Kumar, Ramesh Lal, Ashok Kumar, Bansi Lal, Raj Pandey, Ajay Singh Fouji, Bansi Lal, Krishan Lal, Darbari Lal, Mantu.
