Srinagar, Aug 6: Scores of residents of Zanmpakadal area of Srinagar, today demanded the demolition of illegal constructions erected by the administrators of a Darul Ul Uloom functional in the area.
The residents said that a total of 4 kanals of land was allotted for the Darul Ul Uloom, however, at least 6 kanals have been illegally encroached by the administration of the Darul Uloom.
“After encroaching on the land, the administration-particularly one Fayaz Ahmad Zaroo who is also operating a so-called marriage counselling cell known as Humsafar Marriage Counselling Cell has resorted to illegal constructions over the land,” the residents said.
The residents alleged that the administration, particularly, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is hand-in-glove with the administrators of the Darul Ul Uloom and that no action has been initiated against them so far.
“The land which has been encroached does not belong to them, we have been bringing the issue into the notice of the concerned, however, they have not been paying heed to the issue and our demand of demolishing the illegal constructions,” they said.
The locals alleged that the man operating the Humsafar Marriage Counselling Cell has been involved in many scams and has been utilizing the money collected from people in the name of Zakat and others for his own glory and promotion.
“We are appealing the higher-ups of the district Srinagar to kindly look into the matter and take strict action against the administration of the Darul Ul Uloom, which not only has resorted to encroachment but has also exploiting people associated with it,” they said.
Mohammad Mukarram, General Secretary of Humsafar Marriage Counselling Cell said that institution is legal and the land has been allotted by the SDA and the building permission has been granted by SMC Srinagar.
