JAMMU, Nov 5: All India Confederation of SC ST OBC Organizations and National Student and Youth Forum (NSYF) have highlighted the grievances of SC, ST and OBC students due to cancellation of scholarships.
In a press conference here today R.K Kalsotra, Confederation president and patron NSYF said, a memorandum in this regard was submitted to the Principal Secretary Social Welfare and its copy to Chief Secretary, Director Social Welfare and Director Tribal Department.
He claimed that administration is shying away from addressing the demand of students especially those from vulnerable sections of society and further added that the students have been highlighting their plight via social media platforms but no heed has been paid to the issue.
Kalsotra said that these students are totally dependent on scholarships for their education due to their poor financial conditions and if administration does not disburse scholarship to them, they might not be able to get education at all.
“The students are forced to protest on roads amidst COVID-19 pandemic for fulfillment of their educational needs while they were expected to study,” he maintained.
Narinder Kumar, NSYF leader said he personally met officials from Social Welfare Department and made them aware about the issue which hasn’t resolved till date.
Tarsem Lochan, Jai Nair, Mahesh Kumar, Arun Kumar Bhagat, Ridham Kumar, Arush and Mridul were also present in the press conference.
