JAMMU, Nov 1: Saying that ‘Reservation’ granted to Gujjars-Bakerwals community in Jammu and Kashmir under Scheduled Tribe category is not a charity but was a right of tribe- the community experts today impressed upon younger generation of tribal to work hard for achieving highest successes in all walks of life without banking upon ‘quota’ alone.
Dr Javaid Rahi, secretary – Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, said that reservation is a constitutional provision to provide adequate representation to identified weaker castes and tribes and is not an aid of Government.

He asserted upon new generation to work vigorously for strengthening of Tribal status and identity but at the same time they were advice not to bank upon reservation or quota only. “Although tribals including Gujjars are historically oppressed and denied equal opportunity in society and were thus under-represented in nation-building activities but now it’s a time to prove our-selves as a forceful and vibrant identity of India,” he stressed.
Mr Rahi also asked the youth to try their luck in private sector or outside country too.
