Resentment among GMC Nursing staff over supervisory role to contractual employees

JAMMU, May 16: The Nursing staff of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu and SMGS Hospital has expressed resentment against the hospital authorities for violating conditions of engagement and assigning administrative/supervisory role to contractual engages.
President of Nursing Association, GMC Jammu, Tripta said that the GMC Jammu in last two months had engaged a score of nurses retired from the Institution/department with effect from 31-03-2020 on contractual basis in view of extraordinary situation arisen due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
She said as per the terms and conditions laid down in Government Order No. 347-(JK)HME of 2020 Dated 28-03-2020, the person engaged on contractual basis shall not be assigned any administrative job but the administration of GMCH Jammu and SMGS Hospital have been violating all these terms and conditions and assigning supervisory roles to these contractual engages who were engaged only to strengthen the patient care services in view of spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
“We brought the matter into the notice of the Principal, GMC Jammu, Dr Nasib Chand Digra and he also issued an order two days back directing the respective Medical Superintendents of the Associated Hospitals of GMC Jammu to ensure that the services of the retired paramedical and nursing officials engaged in pursuance to Government Order No. 347-(JK) HME of 2020 dated 28-03-2020 is utilized strictly for patient care services only and not for administrative/supervision purposes but taking U-turn the Principal withdrew its order today,” she regretted.
Tripta said the withdrawal of the order by the GMC Principal on the behest of the respective Medical Superintendents, has further resented the nursing staff of the institution. She appealed the Principal GMC Jammu to ensure implementation of terms and conditions of contractual engages in letter and spirit and not let them violate on the behest of Medical Superintendents.
