Remembering martyrs

It is rightly said that a country which does not respect, honour and remember its soldiers will always be just like a piece of land but never stand as a proud nation. About our army, it is said that warriors are not normally generally born as such, they are ”made” in Indian Armed Forces. Those brave hearts who join our armed forces to save and protect every inch of the land of the country normally are not willing to die but are always ready to lay down life for India, those lion hearted who are ready to orphan their children just for the safety and security of our children, those brave and fearless who are even ready to widow their wives just for the safety, security and honour of the daughters of this country are specially ”made” by the Almighty with a stuff altogether quite different. These daring braves attaining martyrdom while defending and protecting our country make the countrymen indebted in such a way that we only continue to remain indebted even after whatever we do for their families. We must do a bit extra in that finding out how their martyrdom becomes immortalised and remembered very frequently as also ensure that the younger generations and for that matter, future generations remember these heroes and, therefore, draw inspiration too from them.
Referring, for example, to the recent natural calamity of cloud burst, flash floods and loss of precious lives at and around the area of Holy Shri Amarnath Shrine in Kashmir, one of the surviving pilgrims, a young lady, who perhaps had till the moment, not having got acquainted with what a stuff our braves in the armed forces are made of by the Almighty, wondered while being witness to rescue operations with tears in her eyes on account of getting emotionally proud, to know “when they take rest, when they find time to eat and even drink a glass of water while performing their duties under torrential rains and shivering cold, is not normally seen. Their focus being only on rendering help to the people in trouble, save them and yet again get engrossed in saving and serving people and the country is highly admirable. Whether it is the place like Siachen, world’s one of the largest glaciers where these lion hearted persons in the uniform perform their duties or the sizzling deserts of Rajasthan, in fortitude, exemplary sense of duty and in commitment to the country and the countrymen, they are unparalleled and second to none in the world .
The esteem and the sense of gratitude, therefore, for them in the hearts of the countrymen increases day by day. However, it is quite appropriate to find ways as to how those who attain martyrdom while serving the country could be remembered for all times to come. One of the most appropriate ways of doing so is to name schools, roads, buildings, institutions etc after their names. The occasion that of “Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations is appropriate during which, this process should be initiated and completed. Since a decision to this effect has already been taken by the UT Administration and now its implementation should be expedited. The list of such martyrs is already drawn and completed though there can be scope or inclusion of more names after whom identified places/institutions in Jammu and Kashmir can be rechristened. These places, in fact, after being rechristened after the names of the martyrs, become memorials of admiration and thus drawing esteem and respect from the countrymen.
It is imperative that side by side imparting modern education to our children, ”gaathas ” of bravery and spirits of sacrifice of these martyrs are fairly made known to them so as to value the freedom, safety and security enjoyed by us and properly evaluate the same which are as a result of these braves keeping the vigil and watch day and night, non -stop, on our borders and protecting them putting at stake their lives while we are living comfortably in our homes. Weekdays and holidays and Sundays as also ”timings” or hours of work like considerations are not written anywhere in their dictionary. We proudly salute them and we also salute their parents for having given birth to such brave souls.
