This has reference to Former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Ashwani Kumar’s suggestion to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up a Prime Minister Special Relief Fund for international and national level sportsperson who have done the country proud by their feats.
It is an excellent suggestion and needs to be considered for the welfare of sports personnel who have been ignored and are living a miserable life. The monetary aid to these players will not only improve their living standard, grant them recognition but also will promote the standard of sports in the country. The players once their career is over should not feel isolated and neglected.
Rather they should feel proud of contributing their bit in this sector. If India lags behind other countries so far as sports is concerned, the uncertainty in a players career is one of the main reasons. Unless and untill we assure our players of quality life, players would hesitate to have a sports career.
