Release of all political prisoners will strengthen democracy: Sadhotra

JAMMU, Jan 24: Expressing serious concern over India slipping to 10 place to 51st position in 2019 democracy index of Global ranking according to E.I.U as reported in the press, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, senior leader Jammu and Kashmir National Conference & former Minister said in a press statement here, today that “our country is the largest democracy of the world and it is unfortunate that we have been downgraded 10 number’’. It is all due to some undemocratic &unconstitutional acts and decisions.
It is high time that all the political parties of the country should sit together and evolve a Democratic Code of Conduct to further strengthen democracy in our country and to regain the lost status of only largest democracy in the world, Sadhotra asserted.
He said India is going to celebrate 71st Republic Day on January 26 and demanded that in order to strengthen democracy all the political leaders and workers arrested including former Chief Ministers Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah & Mehbooba Mufti be released in view of BJP Government day in day out claim that situation is normal in Jammu &Kashmir. This step will also help our country to regain lost status of only biggest democracy in the world. He said release of all national mainstream leaders will make democracy vibrant in Jammu & Kashmir.
