Release funds for clearance of pending old age, widow pension cases: DB

JAMMU, July 6: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Viklang Chattra Trust seeking better care of old age home, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta has issued directions for release of funds for clearing cases of old age, window and physically challenged persons.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Sumit Nayyar for the PIL, the DB observed, “in terms of order dated 31.03.2018, Director Social Welfare Department has filed the compliance report mentioning details of approved beneficiaries under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) and funds released/pension paid during 2017-18”.
“The perusal of details reveals requirement for clearing pendency of cases under Old Age/Widow/Divorcee/Physically Handicapped, which are 56559 in numbers, pending with the Government for clearance”, the DB further observed and directed respondents to release the funds as required to the concerned department to enable them to release the same to the beneficiaries.
DB further directed that this exercise shall be done within a period of six weeks from the date a copy of this order is made available to them and shall file compliance report on the next date of hearing. Further direction has also been issued to the Director Social Welfare Department to consider and decide the pending cases of the Old Age under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and file compliance report in this regard also.
