UDHAMPUR, May 23: Aggrieved over the Udhampur Municipal Council action of suddenly lifting their Rehris, members of Rehri and Phari Union held a massive protest near the office of MC Udhampur, here today.
Led by Yash Paul, president of the Union, the protesting members were demanded immediate release of their Rehris, which have been seized by the Municipal Council Udhampur (MCU).
Protestors alleged that they were trying to meet with Santosh Kotwal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Municipality, who was avoiding them.
Almost 100 Rehri have been lifted through JCB by the Municipal employee for no reasons with the result that poor people are unable to earn two-time meal for their families,” Said Yash Paul. Stating that cost of making a Rehari comes in between Rs 10 thousands to Rs 15000, he alleged that almost 50 percent Rehris got damaged by the Municipal employees while lifting them with JCB and this was a big loss for these poor people who are already undergoing starvation due to COVID-19.
“The DM yesterday ordered opening the market and if the authorities had asked us to stop Rehri- Pharis, we would have stopped operating the same, but the Municipal employee suddenly came with JCB and lifted our Rehris,” they said.
