Rehdi-Fadi Workers Union continues protest against Traffic Police

JAMMU, Mar 26: For the sixth consecutive day today, Rehdi-Fadi Workers Union-Jammu held protest demonstration against Traffic Police, which had removed their Rehdi-Fadis.
Under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the protest demonstration was held near Press Club Jammu. A number of Rehdi-Fadi workers across the Jammu city took part in the protest and raised slogans demanding restoration of their Rehdi-Fadi.
Addressing the protesting workers, Om Parkash, general secretary of CITU, condemned the continue move of Traffic Police- Jammu to forcibly removed the Rehdi-Fadi of poor workers, destroying purchasable materials and allegedly snatching cash thus rendering hundreds of these poor daily earners jobless. He said that these poor workers are neither demanding employment nor promotion nor increment from the Government but they are demanding to let them to continue their self-employed jobs. He urged upon the present dispensation to allow the poor workers to reinstall their Rehdi-Fadi at their existing place, pay compensation to the poor workers for the loss they suffered and strict action against the persons responsible for unlawfully detention of poor workers . He also intimated the protesting workers that a memorandum of demands of Rehdi-Fadi workers is being served to the Chief Minister for their rehabilitation.
Sham Parsad Kesar- senior leader CITU , in his address, said that the Government agency particularly the Traffic Police has created havoc by forcibly evicting Rehdi-Fadi workers who belong to down trodden section of society. He said that a memorandum of demands of Rehdi-Fadi workers was handed over to Divisional Commissioner – Jammu on 14.03.2018 but still nothing was done in this regard . He urged upon all workers to intensify their struggle till their demands are met. A citizen has the right to do his any self employed job to earn livelihood for his family, he said
Om Parkash, president Rehdi-Fadi Union, demanded early restoration of their earning by allowing them to engage with their Rehdi-Fadis so that this marginalized section of the society is able to earn their livelihood and to live with dignified life.
