SRINAGAR, Oct 14: National Conference today held a special provincial meeting at its headquarters at Nawa-e-Subah Complex and reiterated that the rehabilitation of the flood affected people and the reconstruction of the State was the first and foremost priority for the party.
The party passed a resolution asking the Central Government to make available the funds for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of residential houses, businesses and infrastructure in the State as per the memorandum submitted by the State Government.
The meeting was presided over by NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and attended by NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani and NC Provincial Committee Members including District Presidents, office bearers of NC Youth Wing and Womens’ Wing.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that National Conference had made it amply clear that the party’s priorities were completely different from those of the opponents. “Our first and foremost priority is the rehabilitation of the flood victims. National Conference is committed to the welfare of the people till the last man is rehabilitated with utmost dignity and respect. Our leaders, Ministers and cadre are all working day and night at the bugle call of the NC Working President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in being selfless volunteers for our suffering people”, he said.
The NC General Secretary said that the State Government had prepared a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package proposal worth Rs 40,000 crore that has been submitted to the Government of India. “National Conference demands that the Central Government takes into account the magnitude and scale of the devastation in J&K and expedites the process of approving the package and releasing the requisite funding to help the State and its people to bounce back on their feet. In view of the approaching winters it is imperative that the Central Government fastracks the dispensation of funds to the State Government so that the safety and convenience of the displaced victims is take care of in a proper, effective and time-bound manner”, the NC General Secretary added.
Speaking on the occasion, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani also reiterated that the party’s first and foremost priority was the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the State and expressed amazement at how PDP was baying for elections and the chair even before people had gone back to their homes from tents.
