Regularize NHM workers, provide compensation to farmers: Harsh

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU,  Jan 10: Rebuking the oppressive third episode of  brutal police lathi-charge upon the protesting NHM workers particularly the female employees seeking regularization of services besides the farmers who were demanding adequate compensation against acquisition of their land  for ring road project, NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh today sought the personal intervention of the Governor into the episode with stringent punishment to officers responsible for ordering the said unwarranted police action.
Addressing the media here today, Harsh Dev said that police blatantly surpassed all the limits of brutality when it ruthlessly baton charged the NHM employees comprising majority of female protesters to foil their march towards Secretariat in support of their genuine demands of regularization and a suitable job policy. He said that the unfortunate episode led to injuries to over 80 employees which had broken all previous records of police atrocities on innocent protesters.
“With the H&ME sector in the State already on crutches, the strike of the Health Deptt employees entering 22nd day had resulted in collapse of the health infrastructure particularly in rural areas with a reckless and highly incompetent and obstinate Minister making the situation worse by denying their regularization in response to a question in the Assembly that employees working in CSS can’t be regularized. Rather than visiting the site of protest to enquire about the well being of the employees and address their grievances, another suppressive action of lathi-charge was ordered against the protesters resulting in aggravation of tensions”, anguished Harsh Dev said.
He sought the resignation of Health Minister and regretted that the general public and employees were made to suffer and pay the price for the incompetence of Ministers in this ominous regime. Lambasting the State Govt and the police for ordering baton charge on the protesting farmers while they were marching towards the Civil Secretariat, Harsh Dev said that the Govt and the BJP in particular were adopting the oppressive approach to quell the voice of farming community besides others to hide its committed sins.
