JAMMU, Sept 18: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association has urged upon the State Government to resolve the issues of daily wagers, CP and ITI trained workers of the department without any delay.
A deputation of the WWEA, Rural Division led by State president of INTUC and provincial president of the Association Shiv Kumar Sharma met the Executive Engineer of PHE Rural Division Jammu today and discussed the issues of the workers who are agitating at BC Road office complex for the last several days. Accompanied by senior trade unionists Radhey Sham and Madan Lal, the INTUC leader pointed out that many workers are without wages. They are working even on Sundays and festival days without any break and denying them their wages is great injustice to them. The authorities are violating Labour laws in their case. They should be allowed to avail weekly off.
Many workers are unpaid for the last 25 to 30 months while they are being made to work without wages. He demanded that all of them should be regularized after framing a definite policy. He also demanded that their minimum wages be enhanced to Rs 350 per day.
INTUC leader also demanded holding DPC twice a year and ensure repair work at tube wells and water pumping stations. He demanded that pending wages of all the workers be cleared without any further delay. The field workers be provided adequate equipment, uniforms, torches, some furniture for sitting at pumping/ water stations.
