JAMMU, Feb 19: Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) has urged upon the State Government to regularize 60,000 daily rated/ temporary workers in the State.
In a meeting of the EJAC held here today, its president Abdul Qayoom Wani said that lathi-charge on the peacefully protesting workers and their arrest is highly unjustified. He said the regularization of 60,000 temporary workers is not a political issue but a human issue which is needed to be solved with human heart.
Mr Wani said a large number of youth have been engaged as daily wagers, temporary employees, casual labours, need base workers, CP workers, seasonal workers etc in different departments and Public Sector Undertakings. They are facing exploitation and are forced to work on meager wages. They can not feed their families and provide good education to their children. Many of them are facing starvation as they are not paid for months together.
He urged upon the present State Administration to take sympathetic view of this issue and regularise all these workers in phased manner by framing a definite policy for the same.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Farooq Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed, Amrik Singh, Ganesh Khajuria, N S Jamwal, Vinod Sharma, Sayeed Wajahat, Anil Sharma and Peer Nissar.
