Register Medical Assistants as Pharmacists: APMC

JAMMU, Sept 16: Association of Paramedical Colleges (APMC) Jammu province convened a press conference in connection with difficulties being faced by Medical Assistants who are denied license as Pharmacist.

Addressing a press conference here today, president of the Association, MS Katoch said that after abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu & Kashmir, the youth of J&K are forced to face one or the other miseries, the list of various problems is too long to produce here but so far as the Medical Assistant pass-outs as well as the students pursuing Medical Assistant course are concerned, the authorities are denying them registration as Pharmacist keeping aside the Government’s own order number 803 HME of 1993, dated 11-10-1993 wherein the course of Medical Assistant was re-designated as Pharmacist.
“It is the matter of serious concern that more than 20 thousand youth who have successfully completed the course of Medical Assistant by spending a handsome amount as fee and two years of time of their precious life, have been left to suffer,” he regretted.
Katoch said that the APMC request authorities to initiate the process of registering the Medical Assistant as Pharmacist so that they could start their livelihood for survival in this competitive world. Further, Katoch also added that not only the pass-outs be considered but the students who have enrolled prior to abrogation of Article 370 be considered for registration as Pharmacist.
It was further reiterated that the Government should device a mechanism to bring Medical Assistant course at par with D-Pharmacy for the students who would like to pursue this course in future. Finally, the members of the Association also pointed out that admission procedure for various paramedical courses have not started yet which needs to be taken care of at the earliest.
Dr Sukhpreet Singh, Dr Madhu Sudan, Dr Akash Mahajan and Dr Devinder Singh were also present in the press conference.
