JAMMU, Dec 12: Congress candidate for Jammu West, Surinder Singh Shingari, today said that there is need for a consolidated approach towards PoK refugees and displaced families from Kashmir and other parts of Jammu, who are awaiting justice since long.
Shingari was on his door to door campaign in the constituency appealing the voters to vote for him on the basis of his performance as a ‘sevak’.
Referring rejection of package to PoK refugees as unfortunate, Shingari said that compensation proposal of 25 lakh per family was rejected by Central Government using tactical words, so that no one from these refugees may get a single penny in his life time. On the other hand displaced families from Kashmir are also deceived to get electoral gains. “The leaders at the top do not know how a person feels when deprived of his home and birth place” he said.
Referring to Pakistan occupied Mirpur district of J&K State, he said that a dam is constructed there by Pakistan Government and the property of refugees from this district is submerged into water. “How these people can reclaim their properties?” he asked.
“For some leaders the development means their own development in the garb of false slogans of development and they are not bothered about the plight of refugees, who are even, treated at par as internally displaced persons” he added.
“If it is clear that refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir are not going to get back their properties then why they are deprived of compensation by the Central Government?” he asked. The time has come when refugees and migrants have to show that they are the ones to be taken for granted.
