Refugees accuse Govt of not taking them into confidence on draft package

JAMMU, Nov 16: Various organizations of the refugees from Pak occupied Kashmir,  West Pakistan and Chhamb today accused the Government of  not taking them into confidence on  reported draft package of Rs 7000 crore for their one time settlement.
Addressing a joint press conference, leaders of Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoK, West Pakistan Refugees Action Committee, Chhamb Refugees Association committee, Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee PoJK Refugee Sangarsh Morcha and PoK DPs Front (non-camp) 1947, 65, 71, alleged that the Government was keeping them in dark over the reported package for the reason best know to the persons at the helm of affair.
“As of now, no refugee organization has been consulted by the Government in this regard and we have no knowledge or knitty gritty of the draft,” said Suchwant Singh, a refugee leader.
The refugee leaders said  that  they were not sure whether or not State Government has really undertaken such an exercise or it is just a media hype to distract the refugees from their struggle for their legitimate rights apart from other facilities and benefits as are being given to one section of DPs’ so called Valley Migrants.
Highlighting their demands such as one time settlement, reservation in professional colleges and jobs, political reservation etc, the refugee leaders stressed that the State Government must discuss and deliberate the issues with all their organizations before finalizing any package for forwarding the same to Government of India.
“We strongly demand that to uphold “justice and equality for all” as ensured by our Constitution, the State Government  must recommend for PoJK, Chhamb and West-Pakistan refugees no less package than what is being given to migrants from  Kashmir,” said Capt Yudhveer Singh and Labha Ram Gandhi.
They also called for joint struggle and threatened to intensify the fight for getting their issues settled once for all.
Others who addressed the press conference, included, Jagjeet Singh Sudan, Ch  Pratap Singh,  Dr  Narinder Singh, S Gurdev Singh,  Com  Om Parkash Khajuria, R P Singh and  Sakandya Devi.
