JAMMU, Nov 12: The local poor people have been made to suffer as majority of the delivery cases from District Hospital Doda are being referred to Jammu for the past several days.
Due to this unusual practice in the well equipped District Hospital Doda, the poor and needy people from remote areas are facing lot of hardships. The aggrieved people from the area told the Excelsior that they are being forced to shift the patients to Shalamar Hospital, Jammu or to Udhampur on the plea that Anaesthesia doctor was not available. The doctors say that he was on long leave. Even the concerned Gynaecologists referred some cases on the plea that they need major surgery and needed to be referred to big hospital in Jammu.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr F A Bhat when contacted by some locals to help the poor and attend delivery cases at District Hospital, claimed that in the absence of Anaesthesia doctor, it was not possible to help them. As per hospital record, in just two days on Nov 8 and 9, eight such cases were referred to Jammu and only one of them was operated upon here while others were found to be normal deliveries. The aggrieved people urged the Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma to take cognizance of the matter and help poor public.
The women shifted during these days to Jammu from Doda were identified Gulshan Begum, wife of Irshad Ahmed from Doda, Razia Begum, wife of Abdul Rashid from Malwas, Sharifa Begum, wife of Parvez Ahmed, from Marmat, Sharifa Begum-II, wife of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din from Gurmul, Shamima Zargar, wife of Javed Ahmed Zargar from Dandal, Salima Begum, wife of Mohd Yousuf, resident of Zadan, Shafqat Begum, wife of Mohd Naseer Mattu and Fatima Begum wife of Bashir Ahmed from Dandal village in Doda.
