Redress daily wagers’ issue

Sir,
It was sad and hurtful to go through the report in Daily Exelsior Dated 23 Feb regarding the suicide of a daily wager of PHE Department in Poonch. His family has alleged that he was under stress due to non payment of salary since the last several months. One wonders why the Government is not meeting the genuine demands of thousands of daily wagers engaged in various Government departments and exploiting them. Many daily wagers who are protesting have alleged that they have not received a salary for the last months. The incident and daily wagers plight should shake the Government’s conscience and all the workers should be paid their wages regularly. The Government should bring a reasonable policy in this regard at an earliest. The Minimum Wages Act should be implemented in letter and spirit as this is directly related to the right to life a person and his/her/family. All the daily rated workers working in various Government departments deserve a proper rehabilitation.
