Red Cross Mela concludes at GCW Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU, Dec 21: The two-day Red Cross Mela organized by the Red Cross and NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu concluded here today.
The two-day Mela that was inaugurated by Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, was formally concluded by Principal of the College, Dr Kiran Bakshi.
During the Mela a variety of cultural shows, fun rides, music and different stalls of games, eatables, cosmetics, garments, crockery were displayed that attracted thousands of people from all walks of life.
Dr Bakshi, said that the main objective of organizing Red Cross Mela was to raise awareness about the philanthropic activities of Red Cross among masses to help poor and needy and honing the skills of the students and youth to lead a better life.
She appreciated various organizations like Indian Red Cross Society, J&K Police, Civil Defence, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire Brigade, J&K Information Department, Power Development Department, Ricky Bands, and Print and Electronic media for their cooperation to make the event a mega success.
The stalls of Civil Defence, SDRF and Hindustan Petroleum (HP) were the new feature in the Mela, she added.
Earlier, NSS Programme officer, Prof Amitpal Kour, introduced the audience about the event. The Red Cross and NSS Volunteers Geetanjali, Sehrish, Uzma, Komal, along with other students under the supervision of NSS Programme officer, Prof Neelam Thapa conducted the proceedings.
The vote of thanks was presented by NSS Programme Officer and convenor of Red Cross Unit, Dr Ashaq Malik.
