Reasi Campus of JU organizes ‘Invited Talk’

REASI, May 7: Reasi Campus of Jammu University today organized an Invited Talk by Dr Monica Narang from JU Law School, on the topic “Legal regime regarding protection of rights of women: A dynamic approach” for the students and staff of the Campus.
This talk is in series of the monthly interaction organized by the Campus for the students by inviting prominent academicians and experts of the different fields from the University and other premier institutions.
Dr Monica Narang talked at length about the different laws related to the protection of women like Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005), Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (1956), Dowry Prohibition Act (1961, Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (1971), Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act (2013) etc.
She elaborated the constitutional provisions available in the form of Directive Principles and Fundamental Rights and various articles related to equality and liberty. of the citizens.
Dr Monica further explained the audience that there is need to change thinking and approach of people towards such issues along with awareness regarding legal provisions.
Earlier, Prof Pawanesh Abrol, Director Reasi Campus, emphasized that awareness about the legal perspectives for the safety and protection of the women is very significant for the growth of the society and the nation. He further added that women were given equal status in all aspects during the pre Vedic and Vedic era and the need of the hour is to provide opportunities to the every individual without gender discrimination.
