page1JAMMU, Mar 22: Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu Frontiers, SS Tomar said today that the BSF was maintaining a high alert at the places of its deployment including the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) and would ensure that the militants didn’t manage to infiltrate into this side to disturb upcoming Parliamentary elections.
In an informal chat with media in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district after a high level review of the situation with the BSF Commanders at Jhalas, Ucchad and Krishna Ghati sector this afternoon, Mr Tomar said the BSF was ready to meet with any challenged on the borders in the coming days, which were crucial in the wake of general elections, the process for which has been set into motion.
The BSF Jammu chief said they have installed sophisticated instruments on the borders, wherever they have been deployed, which has raised visibility of security forces and they were in a position to keep a vigil on any untoward movement from a long distance.
“The installation of sophisticated instruments has helped the BSF a lot in keeping a vigil on the infiltrators,’’ he said, adding that despite intrusion attempts by the militants on the borders the BSF has ensured that no infiltration attempt succeeds.
He declared that there has been no successful infiltration attempt on the borders this year so far.
“The BSF jawans were maintaining a very high alert on the borders. They (the jawans) are ready to meet with any situation on the borders in the wake of Parliamentary elections. The BSF is determined to ensure that the elections passed off peacefully,’’ Mr Tomar said.
Asserting that the BSF is also being deployed on election duty in Jammu and Kashmir, the IG BSF said the BSF would ensure peaceful and smooth elections.
“Whether on the borders or in the hinterland, the BSF would leave no stone unturned in maintaining peace, thwarting designs of the militants and ensuring peaceful and smooth elections,’’ the IG BSF said hoping that Jammu and Kashmir would witness peaceful elections.
Admitting that there was presence of militants across the border, who would try to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of elections, Mr Tomar said the security forces were fully alive to the situation and would ensure that the militants didn’t succeed in their plot to disturb the elections.
Worthwhile to mention here that the militants camping across the LoC and the IB were awaiting an opportunity to sneak into this side to create trouble during or before the Assembly elections.
The IG BSF later reviewed security situation on the borders and general areas with the BSF Commanders including Commanding Officer of 135 battalion Jameel Ahmed, which has been headquartered at Ucchad.
Mr Tomar visited the forward BSF posts at Jhalas, Ucchad and Krishna Ghati sector for on spot review of the situation with the field commanders and the BSF jawans. He boosted their morale and lauded the courage displayed by them in thwarting infiltration attempts and maintaining close rapport with the local population.
Mr Tomar examined deployment along the forward pickets.
