Ravi Dass Sabha organises contest on Phule, Ambedkar

JAMMU, Jan 3: Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Bahu Fort, Jammu organized competition of students on the life and mission of Mata Savitri Bai Phule and Mata Rama Bai Ambedkar today on the eve of birth anniversary of Mata Savitri Bai Phule.
Sixty one students took part in the competition. The meritorious students will be given prizes on January 26, 2021. These students were provided books on life and mission of Krantijyoti Savitri Bai Phule and Mata Rama Bai Ambedkar. The function was organized under the chairmanship of Dr Vijay Shivgotra.
While speaking on this occasion Sham Lal Basson – general secretary of Guru Ravi Dass Sabah Bahu Fort, Jammu said that Mata Savitri Bai Phule was first lady teacher of India. She was born on January 3, 1831 at Naigaon in Satara district of Maharastra. She was married to Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule in 1840. Mata Savitri Bai Phule faced many hardships alongwith her husband Jyoti Rao Phule. Phule alongwith her husband opened first Girls’ School at Bidewada Pune on January Ist, 1848. The orthodox people left no stone unturned to create obstacles in the mission of Phule couple to educate downtrodden and women. They managed to open 18 schools with the help of Shaguan Bhai and Fatima Sheikh.
Mata Savitri Bai Phule and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule were great social reformers. They made many reforms for the upliftment of women and downtrodden people and they were honoured for their noble cause. The Phule couple established about 50 food centres during famine which occurred during 1876-77. They established “Satyashodak Samaj organization in 1873.
Dr Shivgotra conducted the written competition alongwith Subash Chander and Suresh Kumar Bangotra. He threw light on the life and struggle of Mata Rama Bai Ambedkar. He expressed that Mata Rama Bai Ambedkar was married to Dr B R Ambedkar in December 1907. She faced many hardships during her whole life and was expired at young age on May 27, 1935 at Rajgreh Dadar, Mumbai. Several paid tributes to both on the occasion.
