JAMMU, Feb 11: State Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather today assured the members of the Upper House that Government would examine the issue of child care leave provision for the women Government employees, on the pattern of Government of India, and if any shortcomings found in the existing State rules, the Govt will certainly adopt the same.
Responding to a question raised by National Conference legislator, Devender Singh Rana during Question Hours in the Upper House, Mr Rather said the State leave rules are broadly based on the pattern followed by the Government of India. In case of illness of the newly born baby, leave in further continuation of maternity leave or paternity leave may be granted under sub rule 4 of rule 41 of J&K Civil Services ( Leave) Rules, 1979 subject to the production of medical certificate to the effect that the condition of the ailing baby warrants mother’s personal attention and the presence.
In response to another question, Mr Rather said in terms of rule 41 of the J&K Civil Services ( Leave ) Rules, 1979 a female Government employee/ servant with less than two surviving children is entitled to maternity leave for a period which can be extended up to 180 days from the date of its commencement. On the plea of Mr Rana, the Finance Minister assured the Member and the entire House to examine the proposal and take a sympathetic view and adopt the same if drawbacks were observed in the existing rules.
