Rate capping and RT-PCR testing

Why should there be no uniformity and genuineness in fixing pricing of the critical RTPCR testing by private laboratories and why should such laboratories at times charge exorbitant rates is just obfuscating the entire issue. On the contrary, when Government taking every aspect into consideration, fixed its pricing beyond charging which would be illegal , why should most of the private laboratories suspend their services for conducting this test for suspected COVID virus infected persons ? These laboratories had been charging unjustified rates ranging from Rs.1600 upwards which was tantamount to exploiting the situation of the pandemic which peaked in the first two to three weeks of May this year. We feel Rs.400 as price for such a test conducting prescribed by the Government is genuine and denying testing facilities to people was simply unjustified if not immoral. Instead of suspending conducting tests under the plea of Rs.400 being “not viable”, these laboratories while continuing testing facilities should keep impressing upon the Government for a review . It may be noted that any adamant attitude like denying testing facilities may lead to a situation where the UT Administration may go in for an alternative arrangement which could cause loss of this “business” to these laboratories. We, therefore, expect that all the private laboratories would restart testing facility of RTPCR forthwith.
