JAMMU, Apr 10: Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Ranbir Campus, Jammu, celebrated its Annual Day function at its Kot Bhalwal Campus, here today.
On this occasion, prizes were given to the students who had topped in their respective classes and also those who had excelled themselves in various competitions held in the Campus as well as at venues in other States of India.
Dr Omprakash Pandey, former OSD (Science and Technology) to the Prime Minister and Director (Projects) CSIR, was the chief guest on the occasion. The function was presided over by the Principal of the Campus, Prof Ramanuja Devanathan.
In his address, Dr Omprakash Pandey lamented that the present-day teaching is just imparting education which is producing just mechanical people, whereas the emphasis should have been on imparting knowledge. “The present-day generation thinks only in terms of pay-packages, but they have forgotten about the happiness quotient. That’s why they go for voluntary retirement after some years of hectic corporate existence and seek refuge at the feet of some Guru in an Ashram,” he added.
Dr Pandey said the teaching needs to be above the petty considerations of greed and personal benefit. “A real teacher is like the brick at the foundation of the building – invisible, but the real source of the building’s stability,” he explained.
In his presidential address, Prof Ramanuja Devanathan said that acclimatization of the ancient Indian wisdom is the need of the hour. “Today the world is tossed and turned by the evil forces of intolerance, violence and unbridled greed, and still yearns for peace. It wants modern comforts as well as real happiness. This combination can come only through proper understanding and assimilation of ancient Indian wisdom with the modern ethos,” he explained.
On the occasion, latest edition of the campus magazine ‘Shrivaishnavi’, research journal ‘Sharadayanam’ and a book authored by Dr Nagendra Nath Jha, entitled, ‘Prachyapashchatyashikshadarshanam’, were released.
Earlier, Vaidik Mangalacharan and Pauranic Mangcharanam, respectively, were recited by Dr Arun Mishra and Dr D Dayanath. Campus students rendered a welcome song.
Head of the Department of Vyakarana, Prof Hari Narayan Tiwari welcomed the guests. Dr Jagdish Raj Sharma, HoD Education, read out the annual report of the campus. HoD of Modern Subjects, Sharat Chander Sharma presented the vote of thanks.
The programme was conducted by Dr Satish Kumar Kapoor, HoD Sahitya.
