Udhampur, Aug 8: An alleged rape victim attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her house in Jakhanoo, under the jurisdiction of Majalta Police Station.
She has been admitted at SMGC Hospital Jammu and as per Police, doctors have declared her not fit for giving statement.
According to father of the 17-year old girl, his daughter was raped by a local youth, namely Makhnu, when she was on way to home after attending her school, last week.
After the matter came into the notice of parents of the victim, some family members of the alleged accused persuaded the former not to report the incident to Police. This morning also, some family members of the accused once again approached the victim’s family and allegedly threatened them against any attempt of reporting the matter to Police.
Upset over the rape incident and alleged pressure being exerted by family members of the accused, the victim attempted to end her life by consuming some poisonous substance. She was rushed to Khaoon hospital and then shifted to District Hospital Udhampur. Later she was further referred to SMGS Hospital Jammu in view of her serious condition.
According to SHO Majalta, Urfan Parvez, an Investigating Officer has reached Jammu for taking statement of father of the victim, on basis of which a case shall be registered in this connection, under relevant sections.
