JAMMU, July 14: A rape accused, who escaped from police custody today morning, was re-arrested late night from Pathankote.
As per police sources, a rape accused identified as Pankaj Gupta, son of Tuli Ram, a resident of Sunder Nagar, who was arrested yesterday in alleged rape case, today morning escaped from Police Post Talab Tillo when taken for nature call.
The accused arrested in a case registered under FIR Number 98/2020 under Section 376 IPC with Police Station Nowabad, escape from the custody by scaling the boundary wall after pushing the cop.
“A manhunt was launched to trace him”, sources said, adding that a team from Talab Tillo Police Post led by Kali Charan under the supervision of SHO Nowabad Inspector Deepak Jasrotia, DySP Headquarters Jammu Shwetambri Sharma, SP City PD Nitya and SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil, re-arrested the accused from Pathankote.
A fresh case under FIR Number 99/2020 under Sections 223 and 224 IPC has been registered against the accused at Police Station Nowabad.
“A departmental enquiry has been also initiated after accused escapes from the police custody, while a cop was also suspended for dereliction of duty”, police sources added.
