JAMMU, Dec 27: In connection with the ongoing organizational election process and to reach to a consensus on election of the new president of BJP for J&K and Ladkah UTs, national general secretary, P. Murlidhar Rao and national secretary, Sunil V. Deodhar met with the BJP State Core Committee and senior leaders of the J&K to know their observations.
According to sources, the BJP national leaders held a joint meeting with the Core Committee members of the party and later met with them one by one to seek their opinion on the election of State president. The two observers of the Party deputed by the High Command will keep their views before the national president, Amit Shah and party working president J P Nadda after reaching New Delhi tomorrow, sources added.
Sources said soon after reaching here the two leaders held a telephonic talk with Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh to ascertain his views on the issue. Dr Jitendra Singh is also a Core Committee member of J&K BJP but being pre-occupied at Union Capital he could not participate in today’s meeting.
Sources said that during the meeting, the BJP leaders sought opinion from party president Ravinder Raina, general secretary (org) Ashok Kaul, former Speaker and senior party leader, Dr Nirmal Singh, former Deputy CM, Kavinder Gupta, former Minister, Sat Sharma, MP, Jugal Kishore Sharma, general secretaries , Dr Narinder Singh, Sunil Sharma and Yudhvir Sethi and party chief spokesperson, Advocate Sunil Sethi.
The prevailing political situation in the State in the aftermath of annulling of Articles 370 and 35 A was also discussed by visiting national leaders with State leadership.
Sources said most members during their one to one discussion with the senior leaders showed unanimity on the name of present president, Ravinder Raina. The two leaders will give their inputs to party higher ups Amit Shah and J P Nadda in New Delhi who will take a final call on the new president.
Sources said the consensus may emerge on the name of Raina as he is enjoying backing of RSS leadership. Moreover, those favouring Raina to continue as Party chief said that he could not serve the full term as he replaced the then State president Sat Sharma after his appointment as Cabinet Minister in the then PDP-BJP coalition Government headed Mehbooba Mufti in May last year.
Sources said during the tenure of Raina party emerged successful in Lok Sabha, Municipal Corporation, Panchayat and BDC elections and he showed the ability of taking entire party along with him. Moreover, some senior Sangh leaders have also shown their satisfaction over the functioning of Raina and they favour his re-election as State president. However the last decision will be taken by Amit Shah, sources added.
Sources said that the two BJP leaders who were here, after their return to New Delhi will again talk to Dr Jitendra Singh and apprise him of the views of party leadership in the State.
Meanwhile, the BJP in a handout issued here today said it is noteworthy that party is moving ahead with the organizational elections at the national level and the J&K as well as Ladakh UTs completed the exercise for all previous steps right from the formation of new booth presidents, Mandal presidents to new district presidents. Now the election for the post of the president of J&K comprising UTs of J&K and Ladakh will be held paving way for the next national president of the party.
BJP State president Ravinder Raina, MP (Lok Sabha) Jugal Kishore Sharma, MP (Rajya Sabha) Shamsher Singh Manhas, former Dy. CM Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Dy. CM Kavinder Gupta, former Minister Sat Sharma, State General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul, State General Secretaries Dr. Narinder Singh & Yudhvir Sethi, State Chief Spokesperson Adv. Sunil Sethi and others were among the prominent BJP leaders who met with the national leadership on the occasion.
Both the senior leaders from national team of BJP met with the Core Committee of party and other senior leaders. During the visit they met with all the senior leaders of party, one by one, giving individual attention to the views put forth by every leader. The senior national leaders of the party tried to take note of every point while they will make their recommendations to the High Command for the election of prestigious post of party’s president.
